To help with my study, I always drew mindmaps connecting subtopics together to ensure I could memorize the sheer amount of content in the course. Drawing mindmaps also helped me to see how knowledge in one topic is expanded by another topic, which overall strengthened my memory having found that interconnection and been able to build knowledge on from the previous.
